World Heritage? Valparaiso might lose it
Much is at stake for Chile and World Heritage status of the city of Valparaiso.
The approved projects for the construction of a huge shopping mall – Mall Plaza Baron, and the development of an enormous port Terminal 2 along the city coast are cause of major concerns.
If recommendations in the report by the ICOMOS (UNESCO) delegation, who visited the city of Valparaiso in November 2013, are neglected, the 2014 UNESCO assembly might well decide to take away the World Heritage status granted to the city in 2003.
